Respiratory Health

Acupuncture can help with respiratory problems

Many people come into my clinic reporting difficulties with clearing their nasal passages, breathlessness, wheezing, sinus congestion as well as frontal and temporal head pain and puffy eyes. For some patients this is a result of various acute responses to allergies, hay fever, sinusitis or due to lingering colds and flu-like symptoms.

However, for other patients it’s due to chronic respiratory issues such as Chronic Sinus Pain, Asthma, Bronchitis, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and Emphysema. Such conditions can result in frequent trips to doctors’ surgery’s and the need for bronchodilators, nebulizers, oxygen and inhaled therapies. Patients may also be under an array of specialists and need to have steroid therapy. Inevitably when the respiratory problems are very severe this can even result in hospitalisation. All of which can be very debilitating and can bring a lot of stress, anxiety, physical fatigue and a lot of fear.

How can acupuncture help?

Five element acupuncture has been effectively used to treat respiratory problems for thousands of years. By inserting fine acupuncture needles in particular acupuncture points on the body, the nervous system is able to correct any imbalances in the flow of energy into the lungs. The aim of treatment being to improve the patients symptoms, improve the immune system, improve the lung energy, and thereby the patients quality of life.
